With the announcement yesterday of the recommencement of Regional Express (Rex) flights to and from Sydney out of the Snowy Mountains Airport (SMA) in Cooma, Tourism Snowy Mountains extends its congratulations and support.
‘’On behalf of the Board of TSM, I would like to say well done to both parties on bringing the service back to the region, this is fantastic news,’’ said TSM Chairman Peter Cochran. ‘’This will not only boost tourist visitation to the region, offering holiday-makers another travel option, but it also allow local people the opportunity to utilise a fast and effective passage to Sydney for business and other matters.’’
Flights will commence from Wednesday 23 March 2016 for the Easter period, with the core schedule of five return services per week commencing from Monday 28 March 2016. Additional services on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays will operate through the ski season.
The services will be operated by Rex’s fleet of 34-seat Saab 340 aircraft and fares start at $149 each way (plus a booking/services surcharge).
Bookings are now available at: http://www.rex.com.au/
TSM in its capacity as the appointed Regional Tourism Organisation played its part in the recommencement of the service with TSM Deputy Chair Wayne Kirkpatrick speaking on several occasions with Rex Deputy Chairman, John Sharp in support of the service and assisted in facilitating the renewed discussions with SMA and Rex.
Further, various correspondence endorsing the service on behalf of SMA were sent by TSM to Rex, plus a letter of support has been submitted by TSM for SMA’s NSW Government’s Restart Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund application for airport improvements.
‘’Tourism Snowy Mountains looks forward to working in collaboration with Rex and SMA to help promote the service with the key message that the Snowy Mountains is a great year-round destination, that can now be accessed by regular flights,’’ said Neil Thew Executive Officer for TSM.
