Tourism Snowy Mountains and Destination NSW Moving Ahead

Tourism Snowy Mountains and Destination NSW Moving Ahead

Tourism Snowy Mountains (TSM) Chair, Peter Cochran and Executive Officer, Neil Thew met with Destination NSW CEO Sandra Chipchase yesterday to discuss the recently announced Regional Tourism Organisation reforms and the effects that it will have on TSM.

In a very productive meeting, it was confirmed that DNSW will provide TSM Regional Visitor Economy Funding of $175,000 to implement a new spring, summer and autumn marketing campaign for the Snowy Mountains. This guarantee is good news for TSM as it ensures the organisation can continue building on the momentum established in the past two campaigns that resulted in an additional 180,000 visitors coming to the Snowy Mountains last summer.

‘’We are very thankful to Sandra and DNSW for committing to this grant and endorsing the good work done by TSM in the past two years,’’ said Peter Cochran. ‘’The uncertainty around the RTO review has made it challenging for TSM to raise the matched funding required for typical RVEF campaigns; so for DNSW to grant the full amount that was applied for, without the obligation to fully match it, is a vote that the organisation is achieving great results and should continue to do so,’’ said Mr Cochran.

To date TSM has raised almost $100,000 for the new campaign and is now seeking more investment from all local businesses, whether they are tourism related or not, to get behind the organisation’s efforts to increase visitor numbers to the region year-round. ‘’It would be ideal if we could raise the full $175,000 and have that combined with DNSW’s investment to implement a full-blooded $350,000 promotion for the Snowy Mountains, that would attract more visitors and have us in market from this September until April 2017, said Neil Thew.

‘’We look forward to working with all stakeholders to bring this campaign to life, including the Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Snowy Valley Regional Council, National Parks, the NSW snow resorts, Snowy Hydro and the range of local businesses that have already committed and hopefully will commit to the campaign,’’ concluded Mr Thew.

The first task will be the production of a new year-round regional brochure that will highlight the Snowy Mountains as a ‘must do’ destination for potential visitors. The plan is to produce a minimum of 20,000 of these brochures and distribute them nationally and to the key international market of Singapore.

The campaign will also involve targeted advertisements and video that will be placed across a number of digital and social platforms such as Google Display Network, YouTube, Facebook and Outbrain combined with strategic partnerships with TripAdvisor and Hotel Combined to measure booking growth (a prerequisite of the RVEF grant).

Winter Campaign Tracking Well

As we now reach the mid-point to the 2016 snow season, Tourism Snowy Mountains is pleased with the progress of the ‘’Go Snowhere Else’’ winter marketing campaign.

TSM along with Charlotte Pass, Perisher, Selwyn, Thredbo and DNSW has so far seen key milestones and targets for the campaign being met and bettered.

‘’The rollercoaster ride that we’ve all had with the weather has not deterred visitation to the region,’’ said Neil Thew. ‘’So far the signs are very encouraging.’’ Concluded Mr Thew.

With two months of the season left, all reports show that uptake of the campaign will result in a significant upswing in visitors to the region year-on-year. A final report will be presented at the end of the season.
