Frequently Asked Questions – DNSW Social Impact Project Workshops

What is the Social Impact of Tourism Project?
This project explores how tourism affects communities in Southern NSW — not just economically, but socially and culturally. It looks at how tourism contributes to, or challenges, community wellbeing, identity, liveability, and social connection.

Who is running the project?
The project is being led by Nourish Group Consulting, commissioned by Destination Southern NSW. Nourish Group specialises in community-centred tourism strategy, social impact, and stakeholder engagement.

What is the purpose of the workshops?
Each workshop is a space for local stakeholders to share their experiences, values, and priorities related to tourism. The insights gathered will inform a regional Social Impact Framework and help shape future tourism planning.

  • The Mountain Biking Workshop focuses on how trail-based tourism can align with local needs and aspirations.

  • The Community Social Impact Workshop looks more broadly at how tourism is showing up in everyday community life.

Who should attend?
We welcome anyone who is:

  • Involved in tourism, land use, or local planning

  • Connected to the community as a resident, volunteer, or business owner

  • Engaged in mountain biking (as a rider, organiser, trail builder, or club member)

  • Interested in how tourism can bring benefit to the region

Do I need to prepare anything?
No preparation is required. Just bring your local knowledge, experience, and ideas. The sessions will be professionally facilitated to guide discussion and ensure all voices are heard.

Will there be a report or follow-up?
Yes. A final report will summarise findings across the region and propose practical ways tourism can better support community wellbeing. Participants will have access to key outcomes and insights.

Will my input be anonymous?
Yes. Comments made during the workshop will be de-identified in any public materials unless we request and receive your explicit permission to quote you.

Can I share this with others?
Please check with the DSNSW team before forwarding the invitation to others in your community or network who may be interested. We’re aiming for broad representation across perspectives. If you can’t make it, please let us know and we can arrange an alternative way to contribute.
