The Southern Hemisphere’s first-ever year-round alpine coaster is at Thredbo. This 1.5km ride sees passengers hit up to 40km/h (riders can control their own pace) as they speed around the uphill, downhill track featuring a tunnel, bridges and circles, all while being immersed in the alpine environment. The alpine coaster will operate in every season and is for people aged eight years or older.

The Big Trout is located 52 kilometres northwest of Cooma in Adaminaby. The town of Adaminaby is close to a popular trout fishing spot, which makes it an ideal location for the 10 metre tall Big Trout. This huge fibreglass structure was built by Adaminaby artist Andy Lomnici,. It was completed in 1973 and is an icon for the beautiful mountain town of Adaminaby. The Big Trout underwent a restoration project in 2024 by Sydney-based mural painter Ryan Loughnane. The iconic sculpture proudly takes her place alongside the 150 "Big Things" scattered throughout Australia.

Yarrangobilly Caves

Step into the depths of Yarrangobilly Caves and you’ll discover stalagmites, stalactites and delicate decorations like shawls and cave corals. Explore six caves created from a belt of limestone laid down about 440 million years ago in Koscuiszko National Park. The largest cave, called South Glory, with its lofty chambers, presents a unique opportunity to explore on a self-guided tour. The other caves, including Jersey and Jillabenan, are guided Discovery tours that run three or four times daily (closed Christmas Day). Tickets can be purchased from Yarrangobilly Caves Visitor Centre. Come properly prepared for adventure: sturdy, enclosed shoes are a must and the caves are very cool, so bring a jacket even in the warmest weather. You’ll also want to bring your swimmers because once you’ve explored what’s below ground, you can take the short walk along Yarrangobilly Caves - River walk to the thermal pool above ground. Year-round, it stays at a constant 27ºC and it's magical paddling here in winter.

In a pristine mountain river setting, you probably wouldn't expect to find a pool, never mind one permanently heated to 27C by a natural spring. But that's exactly what you'll discover at Yarrangobilly Caves. The main pool overflows with a gentle cascade into a children's wading pool. In summer, come here for a quick swim and a picnic. In winter, it's magical to float in the warmth and watch steam rise from the water's surface, as snow blankets the ground around you. There's a picnic area next to the pool, as well as change rooms and toilets. Access is via the short but steep thermal pool walk, or along Yarrangobilly River walk loop. If you have accessibility needs, please contact the Visitor Centre to enquire about access.

From Jindabyne to Tumut, NSW's largest national park will keep you busy for a weekend or for weeks. Ski or snowboard the highest runs in the country at Thredbo and Perisher and try cross-country skiing in winter. Go camping, descend underground to magical Yarrangobilly Caves or climb to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko on Main Range walk in summer. Why not take on the challenge of Snowies Alpine Walk? This 56km hike connects alpine villages at Guthega, Charlotte Pass, Perisher Valley and Bullocks Hut. Spend 4 days walking in the Snowy Mountains and see glacial lakes, wildflower meadows, historic huts and spectacular views. Adventure seekers can also get their thrills on Thredbo Valley track. Beyond high mountain peaks you'll find more to explore. There's great fishing and paddling in the lower Snowy and upper Murray rivers. Throw a line in a mountain stream or reservoir like Blowering, Eucumbene and Tantangara or stop in for a swim in the spring waters of Yarrangobilly Caves Thermal pool.
