Tourism Snowy Mountains Receives Major Funding for Bushfire Recovery Program

NEWS: July 1 2021. Tourism Snowy Mountains has received a grant of $710,000 through Stage Two of the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, co-funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.

According to NSW Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro, John Barilaro:

“The 2019/2020 bushfire season was devastating for the Monaro, with fires burning in all corners of the electorate. We lost lives, homes and important assets like the Selwyn Ski Resort. It was a long and tough summer for the community.”

The money received by Tourism Snowy Mountains will fund projects that will encourage visitors back to the region after the devastating 2019/20 bushfires and strengthen the capability of local tourism businesses. These projects include a two-year tourism marketing campaign, seed funding for regional events as well as industry and business development.

“We are very excited to have been included in the roll-out of this funding. The money will go a long way in helping us meet our objective, which is to increase visitation to the Snowy Mountains by creating a stronger and more diverse year-round tourism sector. It’s also exciting to see other community projects in the Snowy Mountains receive funding, including the Delegate Discovery Centre, the Jindabyne Skate Park and improvements to tourism infrastructure in Adaminaby. Tourism has repeatedly been identified as a catalyst for the region’s growth, so we are very pleased to be playing such a critical role in the future of the Snowy Mountains,” says Janet Mackay, Chairperson of the Tourism Snowy Mountains Board.
